Suffering from Burnout

Have you ever suffered from blogging burnout? That must be the malady that is afflicting me right now. Perhaps starting a third blog was what really pushed me over the edge. I just haven't been in the mood for blogging lately. When I started getting concerned comments and emails, though, I knew that it was time to post.

I am so behind on reading blogs that it's downright depressing. I have nearly 300 new, unread posts in my Google Reader right now. I'm seriously considering marking them all as read and just starting from scratch. I'm sure I'd miss out on some of the great things you've all been writing about in the past two weeks, but at the moment, that Google Reader seems like an unconquerable pile of laundry. I suppose it would be silly to throw away all the clothes and start over if my laundry waxed out-of-control, but that's essentially what I'm going to have to do if I'm ever going to open my Google Reader again!:)

So what have I been doing instead of blogging?
  • Enjoying lots of family, who visited us during the week of Thanksgiving.
  • Overeating with aforementioned family during the week of Thanksgiving.
  • Potty training Bronwen, which has been going great. At least it was going great until she got what we call The Big D around here. I'm seriously considering putting her in a diaper again until this little bug passes.
  • Learning about (and then teaching) the Peloponnesian Wars. This week, it's Alexander the Great.
  • Teaching Ian about pictographs. Here's one we did on hair color of people in our family. If you are protesting that we got your hair color wrong (Daddy), I left that up to Ian.
  • Decorating the house for Christmas. As our pre-lit tree didn't have any working lights on it any more, we put colored lights on this year. It reminds me of the tree we had when I was growing up and gives me a warm, nostalgic feeling. But I have decided that having colored lights makes the tree look much busier.Next year I'll either go back to white lights or use a lot fewer ornaments.
  • Listening to my Christmas CDs. Don't you love Christmas music?
  • Helping with the ward Christmas party. I was in charge of roasting the meats, plus made two jelly-roll pans of brownies. We served spiral-cut ham and a Garlic-Herb Crusted New York Strip Loin Roast, which was fab. And much easier than it might appear, thanks to a great recipe and electric roasters. (I used the 13+ pound roasts from Costco and they were a cinch. You should try it.)
  • Nursing a cold.
  • Reading. I just read Enna Burning last week (the sequel to The Goose Girl, which I loved.) It was not as good as TGG, but it was a fun read so soon afterwards. I started Sarah last night and couldn't put it down. Except for the fact that I was congested, drowsy, and hacking, so I eventually went to bed.
  • Starting my "school day" later and later. Except for 6 am math with Kimball. Before the cold hit.
Oh, and Kimball decided to cut Henry's and his own hair on the day after Thanksgiving. To the hairline. So they now look like shorn sheep, having buzzes courtesy of their father. I don't think they'll be cutting their hair again (or anything else) in the near future.

Anyway, no promises on how soon I'll be back with a new post, but at least now you know that no one has been hit by a car. How is the season going for you?

Family is always better than blogging. Well, almost always.

I especially like the little one digging her fingers into the pumpkin pie :-)

Oh, yes. I am suffering from Blog Burnout right now. I suffer too often.
I finally put the blogs in my reader into folders (family, friends, must reads, other) it has helped when I don't have the time (or desire) to read everyones blogs, I can just read about what is going on in the family.
I really hope you and your family are well soon.
*HUGS*

Sooo glad you're back. I missed you. I looked at the title Turkey Time about a kajillion times. I think blogging at Christmas time is proving to be a big tricky. I'd rather just enjoy the moment.

I'm so glad you're back! I was beginning to worry about you, and was going to ask where you were in the next day or two!

James has been on the computer all day long for finals the past couple of days, so I have some catching up to do too. You didn't miss too much on my blog except stories of barf and how my daughter's fascinated with blood. Fun stuff. So, feel free to start fresh!

Glad you're back!

Wow! I'm so glad you're back. You should know, if you're not catching up on blogs, that I totally copied your invitation idea for Nate's 7th birthday. Popcorn and a ticket to a movie party were perfect. Thanks so much. By the way, I also loved "Princess Academy" by Shannon Hale in case you haven't read that yet.
We missed you! Love, Janet

I like the idea of tossing the ironing pile and starting over...I think I may have done that a time or two - or just found some things had been grown out of by the time I got around to ironing them.
I know you are busy - just toss us a bone once in a while, it doesn't have to be a complete production. (although I love the ones with pictures and link :)

I, too, looked at your Turkey Time title a million times. I'm so glad you are blogging again. I enjoy reading what you have to say. I'm so glad to have gotten my Relishing Motherhood fix. :)

Don't you feel loved? You are!!

I'm so glad we have the real thing so we receive your wisdom and good humor even when your blog is MIA.

Do you have some Vicks VapoRub? Sounds worth a try to me.

Love,

I haven't been posting much lately either... so much computer time is spent doing HOMEWORK!!! Almost done, so I can post again soon... The question reamins however, do I post about Halloween, or just skip it? Hmmmmm .... (throw the clothes away... yeah... do it!)

Sometimes the blog just needs to take a back seat. When it starts to feel like a chore and unenjoyable, it's time to back away from the blog. Looks like you had a wonderful time doing all those things families should do over the holidays!!

Guess what - We should all be doing what you are doing and not blogging! It becomes addictive when you are stuck in side all day. Push delete in the RSS feed and start fresh!

At least they are boys- wait until Bronwen cuts her hair the day before Easter, after you bought her a $60 dress from Garnet hill- (plus shrug- let's not do all the math) in an effort to make her look perfect- and gives herself a mullet! You will cry.

I understand the burnout feeling. But if it makes you feel any better, you won something on my blog. :)

I'm not suffering from burnout. I just haven't been able to think of anything to write about. I think my mind has been too preoccupied and crazy with finishing up our history class and then the busyness of the season. I'd say I missed you, but I didn't even know you hadn't posted because I haven't been around checking on my favorite blogs much lately! However, I DO miss you and all my favorite bloggers!
