"The" Gift of Christmas

Does this happen at your house? It seems like every year, no matter how many or how few presents our kids get, whether or not they got exactly what was on their list, there is one present that EVERYONE wants. One present that is the source of greatest excitement, greatest conflict, greatest anxiety, and greatest pleasure. Every year.

This year, the gift was Henry's. A Clone Trooper Voice Changing Helmet. I had seen it in the stores and thought it was really overrated. Every time we passed it at Costco, my kids would drool over said item. But two weeks before Christmas, I pulled out everything I had purchased to wrap it and discovered that Henry was woefully underrepresented in the presents department. As in, I'd bought him a t-shirt. And as there wasn't much on Henry's wish list, you might not be surprised to find that Santa brought Henry the Clone Trooper Voice Changing Helmet that everyone wanted.

What may (or may not surprise you) but certainly took me off guard, was that this year, everyone else has wanted to play with it, too. As in the adults. As I was in the kitchen late on Christmas Eve, working on pull-apart bread for the morning's breakfast, I could hear Jared in the living room, playing with the dumb thing. And it was loud. I had to come out and shush him before we woke all the kids up at 11:00 pm and ruined Christmas.

Not only did all three boys want to try the helmet on immediately, but the moment that no one else was wearing it, Bronwen tried it on.

Friday morning, we piled into the car to visit my family in Southern Cal. I said the voice changing helmet should stay home. I was overruled by everyone else. And before we even got into my mom's house, two of my brothers (ages 27 and 24) had already tried on The Helmet. I hugged a clone trooper in greeting on the sidewalk.

As if that wasn't enough, last night after the kids were in bed, I found my mom trying it on. What the?????

So I guess I'm the only member of the family that doesn't get the allure of The Helmet. Does that make me out of touch?

What was The Gift at your house this year?

Hee hee, for the younger two it was the Imaginext Batcave the middle one got. For my eldest it was the fifty cent foam glider in his stocking.

Skip the helmet for me; I want you mom's sweater! Although, I'd probably want the helmet too. But first things first.

Dan bought a telescope for the boys, but I think it really was for him. Anyway, all the boys are enjoying it. It was so fun to have your family in church today. The boys are adorable as well as Bronwen.Thank you for helping out in primary. Wish you could visit more often. Have a wonderful new year.

Our kids LOVED the Marble Race Deluxe from Toys R Us, where you build a track for the marbles to go down. Our 2-year old played with it all day long. (He doesn't put things in his mouth anymore, so it's all good.)
I think Jake would love the helmet, though.

Love it! So you came all the way down here and didn't stop by?!

I had ordered a fun (in my opinion) tether-tennis outdoor game before I knew dh had decided to get the family a wii. I felt my little "go outside and get some fresh air" toy would be ignored. Don't get me wrong, the wii is still the favorite, but the kids have spent a great deal of time outside with tether tennis too! Yay!

Oh, it is all worth it just for that photo of a red cardigan wearing Storm Trooper.

The pictures are priceless. Aren't you glad you were overruled on bringing it along? What would Christmas be without a storm trooper grandma? That will be a fun one to look back on.

Amber's birthday toys were more popular than our Christmas variety this year. Go figure. I guess new personalized sleeping bags and rolling backpacks for air travel were more of a novelty for Mom and Grandma. And since everyone got a new 'American Girl Doll' of their very own (Amber doesn't know hers isn't the real thing) there is contentment among the troops. :)

Maybe I need a son to make things interesting. More action toys would liven things up around here a bit.

I love it!
We have an Optimus Prime voice changing helmet. I have to admit that I have tried it (for the entertainment of my children, not my own. Promise.) and they are pretty cool. I love when little children try it on. So cute.

"The" toy at our house has been Guitar Hero World Tour. Luckily we can all play at the same time. We have already had a few friends over to play. We are having a blast with this thing!

I'm in a rush for my post-Christmas blog catch up marathon, so I'll keep it short: loved it. And my kids always like their cousins' presents better. Ack.

Ha ha! I think we would all want the helmet too! I'm glad you guys had a good Christmas.

You know, I think everyone was pretty excited about Sam's legos...especially after he put them together. But my girls were pretty happy with their dolls, which Sam had absolutely no interest in.

BUT, if someone had the helmet....
