Good Things in the Mail

While I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago (yes, I am behind on my blogging. Averaging 3 1/2 hours of sleep at night really motivates you to nap instead of blog during the day), I got a few things in the mail that I am very excited about.

The first is a baby carrying-pouch sling from Dittany Baby. Even though this is my 5th baby, I've never had a pouch or wrap before. I have used a Baby Bjorn from time to time, but it is really a pain to take on and off and your baby needs to hold their head up before you can use it. Not so with this goodie. I've already used it a few times in the past week to hold Margaret when I needed to multi-task. I plan on writing a review in the next week or so after I've used it more, and when I do there will be a giveaway of some of DB's products, so be sure to check back in. And go check out Dittany Baby's other great items, including some GORGEOUS tights, skid pants (leg warmers), and car seat blankets, and more.

I also received a letter in the mail from Dreyers, informing me that I won an essay contest that I entered to have a block ice-cream party (a Neighborhood Salute, they're calling it) for 100 people in my neighborhood this summer! They are sending out a big box full of party supplies including decorations, invitations, yard signs, etc, and enough Dreyer's Slow Churned ice cream to feed 100 people! I squealed with delight. I'll blog about it later--our party is scheduled for Labor Day weekend-- but this is a contest that has been going on for years, so you should be sure to enter next year and win won for your own neighborhood.

Last but not least, my birthday present arrived.

You may already know what a fan I am of the Bosch mixers. Last fall, my mini Bosch bit the dust and I replaced it with a 20 year old Craigslist model. Then, a few months ago, that mixer, too, gave up the ghost. When my birthday rolled around, we decided it was time for us to take the plunge and actually buy the machine we really wanted and would happily use for the next 20-40 years. Hooray!

Unfortunately, since I had major surgery on my birthday and brought a new baby home shortly thereafter, I have not had the opportunity to use this already beloved and much anticipated machine. But I am going to bake bread again this week if that's the only thing my family eats one day for dinner. I'm sick and tired of Orowheat!

Have you gotten anything good in the mail lately?

Reading this made me think of the movie and book, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio!

Congratulations! Hope you will publish your winning entry.

Well, I'm glad we live in your neighborhood. :)

It's fun to receive real mail and packages from time to time. We keep getting little boxes and packages addressed to "Drew". I LOVE seeing his name on things. I still can't get over having a boy.

So fun for you! The most exciting thing we have gotten in the mail lately is Netflix. Very boring. :(

I made a moby wrap for my friend a few months ago. They are so cool. I can't wait to use one with this baby!

I am so excited to hear about the ice cream party!

P.S. My word verification is SCONES.... Yummy!

I haven't gotten anything good lately, but my husband got his iphone in the mail today, does that count? I am interested to hear how you like the baby carrier/wrap. I have never had much success with them. Maybe I do it wrong?

I really, really want your bread recipe and any secrets that go with it.

I heart my Bosch.
Isn't that new model so pretty? (My mom got one for Christmas and I totally covet it.)
And hurray for icecream!!! Have fun at your party!

You WON?!?!!!! Yes!!!
I had a feeling you might win when you told me the angle you took with your writing.
Congrats Michal! I'm so impressed and I love your writing. No surprise that others took notice too.
Wish I could be there for the party! Sounds like it'll be a blast!

I love your new mixer. I'm such a novice at the mixer thing. I have a kitchen aid, and I love it. I did have a problem making your bread in it though. I froze up on me because the recipe was so big. That is why I loved your recipe because it made 4 loafs, but my mixer couldn't handle it. I am learning. :)
Anyway, I just recieved our new double sleeper sleeping bag for our next family camping trip in the mail. I love it.
Congrats on the block party!

Just to stick up for the Bjorn- you CAN use it before a baby can hold his head up, and it is very easy to take on and off if you do it fourty five times a day. I placed a Garnet HIll order order today- so good things are on their way... :)

How exciting to have a ice cream party!! I have been hearing wonderful things about that mixer, how it is better than the kitchen aide (especially for bread)! Looking forward to hearing more about it.

Hey - a gal in our neighborhood/ward entered the Dryers Neighborhood contest and won...we had our neighborhood ice cream bash on Saturday. It was so much fun. There is a neighbor with a 16 foot inflatable movie screen so it was ice cream and movies. Everyone is talking about wanting to make it an annual event. How was your party - has it happened yet?

I too love Bosch appliances. My Bosch was my grandmothers, she upgraded to a new one. I'm not sure how much longer mine will last, but it seems to still be going strong!
